CALIBRATED SIEVES

Laboteck Calibrated Sieves for granulometric analysis are manufactured with stainless steel screens. Calibrated sieves are essential laboratory equipment for granulometric analysis, which is a technique that determines the particle size. This process is done by separating the particles according to size. Laboteck provides calibrated sieves in accordance with updated high national standards and with all appropriate technical support.

In a simplified way, the process of comparison between a standard and the instrument to be calibrated, this process has as its main objective to know the errors and uncertainties of the measurement instruments. To record the results found, a calibration certificate is issued.

So, by definition, calibrating a device does not improve its situation. The calibration makes the situation of the instrument known in such a way that we can decide whether or not the equipment is capable of controlling a product or process. To improve the situation of the instrument, a process called adjustment is necessary, in which the errors of the equipment are reduced.

 

OBJECTIVES OF GRANULOMETRIC ANALYSIS AND CONTROL

  • Geometrically classify elements of a product to determine its particle size distribution
  • Control the classification carried out by industrial screening equipment.

These analyzes and controls are usually carried out in the laboratory on product samples with the help of standardized calibrated sieves.

Another factor that also affects the determination of the sample size is its specific weight, so consider the following observations:

  • Low Specific Weight Materials: The sample size should be closer to the lower limit of the recommended sizes.
  • High Specific Weight Materials: The sample size should be closer to the upper limit of the recommended sizes.

With the operator’s experience and repetition of the tests, it is possible to determine the best screening time for each material tested.

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLEANING, DRYING, AND HANDLING CALIBRATED SIEVES

To have the calibrated sieves always in good condition and ready for use, follow the instructions below:

 

CLEANING OF CALIBRATED SIEVES

  1. Immediately after using it, using a clean, dry cloth or a brush, remove all the material that is impregnated in the frame and the screen, if necessary apply a jet of compressed air.
  2. When the removal of the impregnated material is not possible in dry conditions, use running water or use a cloth soaked with organic solvent (eg alcohol or acetone)
  3. If the sieving was carried out in a wet environment in an acidic environment, leave the sieve immersed in a bath of sodium bicarbonate for 5 minutes, then rinse with running water and proceed with drying.

 

DRYING OF CALIBRATED SIEVES

  1. Placed in a greenhouse at a temperature of a maximum of 70ºC until the total drying process.
  2. Use an absorbent and dry cloth, allowing it to dry at room temperature.

 

HANDLING OF CALIBRATED SIEVES

  1. The screening cannot be processed at a temperature above 70ºC in order not to compromise the fixation of the rim to the counter rim. (For sieves with temperatures above 70ºC please consult our technical department)
  2. It is advisable that the laboratory sieve is stored in its identification box and in a place where there is no moisture, dust, and corrosive atmosphere.
  3. When using a cleaning cloth, especially on a very thin canvas, it should be touched lightly, without forcing it, in order not to compromise the tensioning.
  4. Do not remove the protective film from the sieve identification, as it guarantees its integrity.
